Hmm, that's working pretty well...

This is a tribute to everyone that starts something, but doesn't complete it and figures it's working well enough, 'so just leave it'. lol

Sound familiar? Is this you? Oh come on, I'm sure that almost everyone is guilty of this behavior at some point in time. If not, let's wait a few years, I'm sure you'll find yourself in this situation!! That being said, it's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes, you just need to let go of things and see how they react when left alone, partly completed. Not a bad thing at all when we have 53,000 tasks on our plates and only time to complete 7 of them!!

That being said, I know I'm guilty of it in many day to day as well as work situations. What I'd like to know is who else feels they're in the same boat? Add your comments and list some of the things that you've left to fend for themselves in this hectic world we live in with no time to even stop for a restroom break it seems...

Snow, no Show, yes Snow!!

Oh My Gawd!! I used to hate the snow when I had to shovel it!! hahaha Now I just drive over it!! I'm sure my neighbor who I share a drive way with hates it even more now that I'm not out there plowing the shared part with my mower. Ah well, after blowing up the engine in the last one and then not getting any help from them, fug 'em... *I* and now Frannie can get up the hill in our 4wd toys... pshshshsh

Seriously though. Now I know what all those jeep drivers were thinking while I was white knuckling it home in the snow. I had a nice enjoyable ride home from work, taking my time, not worried if I was going to slip and slide or get stuck. (I took it easy and didn't get cocky, but there is something to driving a vehicle that was designed to handle those situations!)

The real key though (knock wood) is to actually get out of the neighborhood tomorrow. lol That hill is just plain treacherous!! After that, it's pretty much clear sailing. So like Frannie said, if I can get out of the neighborhood, every payment I've made on this vehicle is well worth it!

So yeah, buy a Jeep... they're awesome!

The road well traveled

It's a fact of life that the more you see something the less you notice it. It's difficult to see the same things day to day and keep a fresh perspective. Although it is a task that is most rewarding! If you can step back and look at things with a fresh perspective, you notice little things that you would not normally.

I challenge you to do this. Learn to see the things you "don't see" everyday. Make a list of the things that you notice. Change things around and make them new again.

Keeps it fun! Keeps people guessing and keeps your mind young!!

The thing we least think of... well most of us - Listen Up!

I was having some conversations lately and was reminded of a little thought about (I presume) but very important thing. Listening to others and letting them know what you think.

A lot of times, we hear what our friends and colleagues are saying, but are we listening to what is being said and sometimes more importantly, what is not being said. I spend a lot of my time listening to people. I tend to be a bit quieter at times and fade to the background, but when I do that, I get to really listen to what's going on around me. You'd be amazed at what is happening and what is being said that you actually tune out or are in too much of a hurry to insert your comments to actually comprehend what is being said around and to you.

Sometimes I guess it's easier not to listen, sometimes it is more important to get your information out there... but you'll have a much more receptive audience if you remember that in order for people to want to have an interest in what you are saying, you have to take an interest in what they are saying.

Besides, how can you really be friends with someone if you never really listen to what they have to say? It's common sense and common courtesy!

Why is it...

Why is it that people say one thing but mean another? I'm not talking about normal run of the mill people that you meet and interact with. That's a given. No, I'm talking about people that you've become friends with either at work or not. People with which you've grown to a point that you can confide in them, know them and understand one another with just the briefest of statements. Talking about friends.

It's amazing the number and degrees involved in the "friendship" circles. Close friends, best friends, friends, friends friends and more... it's dizzying and can get confusing. I may be at a disadvantage in this game of friendship as I tend to not make friends, (well close friends - see what I mean?) very easily. I have no problem with work friends, acquaintance friends, friends, friends friends, etc. It seems to be the close friends and best friends areas that tend to mess me up.

Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm the one with the twisted sensibilities and uncommon levels of what, dunno. See to me, I'm normal. I know, right?! Well, that's to be expected. It's just the way it is, we all see normal as a reflection of ourselves. I can even recognize that and in most cases don't have a problem with it. It's just when a friend moves from the good friend alignment to the close or best friend alignment that it becomes an issue.

BTW, how does that happen? It's a mutual thing right? I mean you can't just move someone from one alignment to another without their consent can you? I guess you could, but then they really wouldn't know, would they? And with that in mind, do they need to be told, or is it just an understood kind of thing? lol

So what was I saying? Oh yeah, why do people say one thing and mean another? Is it a using type thing? Do best friends and close friends do this normally? Or is it reserved for the "other" alignments of friends? (shrug) Dunno... I always like people to know where I stand, so I tend to tell them and even with all the different levels of friends, I am more of a 'this is the way it is' kind of person. So, yeah, maybe it is me. Again, Dunno...

Oh that?

Yeah, that's my WJ, bought it just the other week. I've always wanted a jeep, particularly a Cherokee. I went to see a Cherokee, having passed up probably the best XJ I'd ever see for the money and it was kind of a piece of crap, but then again, they only wanted a couple grand for it. Well they wanted to unload it and at first denied that they had a Grand Cherokee on the lot. lol Told me it was a Kia... NOT! It was a slightly newer Grand Cherokee Laredo.

Well, as soon as I saw it I knew that was the one that I'd been waiting for. Took it for a test drive and it was the shit!! Went back and told him I'd take it. They were going to finance it for me, but being Christmas Eve, there were all kinds of delays for this, the systems down for that, etc. I just looked over at Fran and she nodded her head. I threw the credit card down on the desk and he said how much are you putting down? I said 'nothing', pay for the whole thing. (Now this card has been around for the last what 20 years? so has quite the credit line! lol) He didn't look pleased or convinced, but after about 45 seconds when the approval was immediate, he was very happy. We were out of there within a quarter hour and went and got noods!!

WooHoo and that's how I got my jeep... Oh and the reasoning (you always need a valid reason, right?) was that it would insure that I could make it to work in the worst weather! Well that reasoning works equally well for me as it does for Fran. We picked up her 2010 JK (Wrangler) the very next week! Ha

Cool right?! Yeah, I think so.

Ok so...

Well when we last talked it looks like I had just started at Starbucks and was oh so happy to get started as a barista! Looks easy right? Wrong!! Omg I had no idea, none what so ever how difficult it is to do what the partners at Starbucks make look so easy! The recipes, the drink codes, the language, the sequence, the modifiers... lol and then after learning the "main drinks" trying to memorize the regulars drinks AND names AND their alternate drinks... I told Fran that this was "the toughest job I never knew I would love!" Seriously, I freakin LOVE this job!!

Fast forward a couple months and I'm promoted to Shift Supervisor. OMG another whole set of things that I had to memorize and perform, and help new baristas' learn and oversee the shift and run the store basically when the manager isn't there. Whew!! Tough, but again fun as all get out! I fell in love all over again. And my manager, omg, you couldn't ask for a better person to work with or for. She inspires you to excel and helps you do it, if you want it. I would have done any task for her and did without hesitation. I still would even now. Oh that's right, I didn't fast forward again...

Fast forward a year plus a little and I'm being promoted again. But not to Assistant Store Manager like I thought my next step would be, but directly into RMT for a position as Store Manager if I pass the training. Wow, again, another geometric progression in the amount of knowledge, skills and tasks that need to be monitored, coached, taught, guided and completed. OMG! lol It just keeps getting better and better. I'm a couple weeks into my accelerated training program and I'm not only loving it, I'm growing, learning and embracing it with arms wide. I am sure that I'll be able to do the job when I'm finished with the training.

No more fast forwards at this point. That's where I am and that's what I'm doing. This was a goal I set for myself when I was 3 months or so into the job and I've almost attained it. I'm happy and proud to have gotten this far this quickly. Now onto the other goals I set and to help some others set some goals as well.

Out for now.
